To the south of St. Catherine monastery, Gebel Musa (Moses’ mountain) rises some 7,000ft.  At the summit, it is believed that God gave Moses the Tablets of the Law containing the Ten Commandments.  The Mount of Sinai is considered by many religions to be sacred (Hebrew, Christian and Islam), and you can get to the top in about 3 hours.

**** please note that the transfiguration church is currently closed due to Covid-19 but people can see it from outside and can also see the  burning bush – Moses well and icon and manuscripts Gallery.

Itinerary

Day 1Pick up from the hotel

This tour leaves Sharm at approx 21.00 and arrives to St. Catherine village very early morning (about 00.30 or 1.00).

Walk up to the top of Moses Mountain

Upon arrival to St. Catherine village you will have a chance to stop in one of the local hotels and refresh with coffee or tea before you start your walk up to the very mountain Moses climbed himself, reach the top and wait for the spectacular sunrise which is like no other.

Visit St. Catherine Monastery

After sun rise, walk down and, have breakfast, ready to then visit the biblical site of St Catherine’s Monastery built around 330 AD, and has remained unchanged for centuries and is still inhabited by Christian Greek-Orthodox monks. Arrive back into Sharm El Sheik around lunchtime.

Day 2Head back to the hotel
